I find it difficult to put into words what tragedy continues to befall Tottenham Hotspur, one of the great English Clubs.
It was another day when Tottenham slipped at the last second and let go of a certain victory after Xavi Simons had produced a stunner to give the Spurs a 2-1 advantage over the Seagulls from Brighton.
Thirteen minutes plus some stoppage time had to be defended, but as brittle as you like, the Tottenham defence was pierced by Georginio Rutter, just at the final whistle, thus snatching a draw for Brighton from a certain defeat.
Tottenham played a good game and led twice in their backyard, only to let go of the advantage each time. Porro scored in the 39th minute, but Mitoma for Brighton squared it up at the stroke of half-time and then again Simons’ effort went to waste at the long whistle.
Tottenham have not won a game this year. They have played 15 and won none, which is such a painful statistic for a team which once could take on the best in England, Europe and the World.
Roberto de Zerbi, in his second match, had almost reversed the trend, but that was not to be. If West Ham win against Crystal Palace, Tottenham may sink further into the relegation zone. A point from today’s game may not hold them in good stead.
Kudos to Brighton. They have become a force in English Football with their discipline, tenacity and a strong will to win.
Tottenham need to learn. But where is the time?
