A Difficult Three Weeks For Liverpool
It all started with a 1-2 loss to Brighton in the EPL on the 21st of March, when the 35-year-old Danny Welbeck made Liverpool pay with an exquisite brace. Then came the 0-4 drubbing at the hands of Manchester City in the FA Cup quarter finals and then a lucky escape with just a 0-2 loss to PSG in the Champions League 1st leg quarter finals in Paris. It has been a hat trick of losses for the Reds and a rather difficult 3 weeks.
The Reds Seek Redemption
As Match Day 32 of the English Premier League beckons with the visit of Fulham to Anfield tonight, Liverpool has a great chance of a quick redemption and to get their campaign for a Champions League spot next season, on track.
Fulham – A Tricky Opponent
Fulham is not going to be an easy opponent, and Liverpool knows that better. The London club had snatched a draw when the two teams met last on the 4th of January at Craven Cottage. Harisson Reed had caused great heartache with a goal at the stroke of the long whistle to earn a 2-2 result.
Liverpool’s Defence Under Pressure
A good team, Fulham, powered by Harry Wilson, Emile Smith Rowe and of course their Mexican star Raul Jimenez, could cause a lot of trouble to an already tired-looking Liverpool defence. Ibrahima Konate and Virgil van Dijk have taken 8 goals in the last 3 games, which in itself is a massive indicator of Liverpool’s porous defence.
Liverpool Stars Have to Fire
But the Reds are playing at home, and with Alexander Isak fit again, the goal-scoring abilities have been bolstered by his arrival. In my opinion, Mo Salah might return to the playing XI in place of Frimpong and Florian Wirtz and Szoboszlai need to come good tonight. Mac Allister, too, needs redemption in the midfield. Liverpool needs him to fire. Unfortunately, he has been a shadow of himself this season.
The Hosts Start As Favourites
Arne Slot will be under a lot of pressure. A win against Fulham is a must to arrest the downward slide and remain in strong contention for a place in the Champions League next season, with Chelsea breathing down the Reds’ neck. But Liverpool is a great team, and no wonder they will start as favourites.
I hope Liverpool turn a new leaf tonight.
