Tottenham Take On Sunderland In A High-Stakes EPL Encounter

High Stakes

The stakes can’t be bigger for Tottenham Hotspur. One of the giants of English Football, the beleaguered Spurs are fighting hard to stay afloat in the EPL and avoid relegation. The situation is critical as if on life support. Roberto de Zerbi has been signed as the Spurs’ new Manager after the much hyped Igor Tudor hardly survived a couple of months.

Pretty Sunderland

The Stadium of Light in Sunderland is where the big test for de Zerbi will take place tomorrow as the Londoners travel to Sunderland. The Black Cats under Régis Le Bris have had a great season and are sitting pretty at 11th in the EPL table, while Tottenham have been pushed into the relegation zone after a flawless West Ham. They hammered the pitiful Wolves 4-0 last evening.

Poor Tottenham

Tottenham, therefore, have to win tomorrow to stay above West Ham. Roberto de Zerbi has been entrusted with a rescue mission for now and will have to dig deep into his professional reservoir to pull the team from the dangerous abyss it finds itself in.  Winless in 13 games since the turn of the year, Tottenham Hotspur has recorded a massive 15 losses in 31 games this EPL season. Their last 5 games have witnessed 4 defeats and a single draw.

What’s Instore

A spate of injuries to key players disturbed the balance of the side. A trigger of losses led to a massive confidence deficit, which further compounded the problem. However, with Cristian Romero, Richarlison and Dominic Solanke back in the mix, the Spurs are not a bad side, and if they play to their potential, Sunderland may have a tough time.

The Black Cats have been the success story of the EPL this year. Under Régis Le Bris, the team has developed a tremendous defence, and in the front, they have the services of the in-form Dutchman, Brian Brobbey.

Head To Head

Head to Head, Tottenham are yet to be beaten by Sunderland in their last 15 games, which gives Tottenham the edge against the Black Cats, but on current form, coupled with home advantage, Sunderland are the favourites in my opinion to get past Tottenham.

What to expect

It will be a test of Tottenham’s character more than their skill on the field. Can Roberto de Zerbi buck the trend in his debut game and give Tottenham a new lease of life? This is the question on everyone’s mind.
