The Algerian Football Team, known as The Desert Warriors, made it to the FIFA World Cup 2026 after an emphatic 3-0 over Somalia last night.
It was to be a home game for Somalia, but the Ocean Stars did not have a stadium fit for an International match, and hence the match was played in Algeria instead, in the coastal city of Oran.
Riyad Mahrez, the former Manchester City winger was in his elements as he played like an authoritarian patriarch and led Algeria brilliantly.

He set up Mohamed Amoura twice in the match. The Wolfsburg player obliged and scored once with a quick swipe and then with a perfectly timed header.
Riyad Mahrez, let one fly off his boots as he struck a ripper with immaculate precision and ease. Eventually Algeria won the contest without any alarms and, having topped Group G with one match to spare, confirmed their place in next year’s World Cup.
The Desert Warriors previously had four stints in Football’s greatest competition in 1982, 1986, 2010 and 2014, and thus will be making their 5th appearance after a gap of 12 years.
Algeria joined their North African neighbourhood of Morocco, Tunisia and Egypt for the quadrennial Competition, a big tick for Northern Africa.
It was also a very satisfying day for Algeria’s Bosnian coach Vladimir Petkovic, who, with his tremendous tactical acumen, has developed a tremendous team. Algeria won’t be pushovers or mere participants at the World Cup for sure.
