Ben Shelton Beats Sonego To Set Up Sinner Clash
Ben Shelton, the 23-year-old American, came through a tricky Round of 16 match against Italian Lorenzo Sonego a couple of nights ago. Shelton fought back after losing the first set and eventually won in four sets 3-6, 6-1, 7-6, 7-5. However, Shelton would be up against Jannik Sinner, the world no. 1, but there might just be a twist.
An Unfit Sinner Survives An Injured Dimitrov
Sinner, who had been seriously dominating his opponents and winning comfortably in straight sets, ran into Dimitrov. The Bulgarian with a game tailor made for grass had Sinner in a web. The brilliant Italian had injured his elbow in the first game, which seriously affected his fierce and formidable forehand. An upset was on the cards as Dimitrov took a two-set lead over Sinner. However, the Bulgarian suffered a serious shoulder injury and had to withdraw in a tearful moment. Sinner, unfit himself got a new lease of life and was lucky to get through to the quarters.
Ben Shelton, The Dark Horse
For Ben Shelton, an injured Sinner is indeed a great opportunity to reach his maiden Grand Slam semi-final. Shelton has shown tremendous application, and his riveting personality exudes tremendous confidence and determination. As much as I have been disappointed with Jack Draper, I have been impressed with Ben Shelton. Coached by his father, a former tennis player himself, Ben has all the ingredients to challenge the stranglehold of Sinner and Alcaraz. With a powerful serve, quick silver movements, a fine volley, a decent baseline game, and steely temperament to top it all, Ben Shelton may just be the dark horse in the fray.
