George Russell wins Canadian Grand Prix

George  Russell Day

It was George Russell’s day at the Circuit Gilles Villeneuve in Montreal, Canada yesterday. The Brit had pipped Max Verstappen for the pole position in qualifications at the last minute and then drove brilliantly from start to finish to win the 70-lap Canadian Grand Prix. Max Verstappen was second behind Russell, while Kimi Antonelli took 3rd position.

George Russell’s and Mercedes’ Flawless Performance

With a flawless two pit-stop strategy, George Russell led from start to finish to ensure Mercedes’ first victory of the season. Russell kept his cool and, though Verstappen was tailing him, he kept the Dutch at bay till he crossed the Chequered flag.

Antonelli Fights Hard

The race however, was being fought hard for the 3rd position. Oliver Piastri was in a dog fight with 3rd position Antonelli of Mercedes. The leader in driver standings this year and in sensational form, Piastri was seen fighting tooth and nail with Antonelli, who was giving his all for his maiden podium finish.

Norris Collides With Piastri

Antonelli got through the Piastri challenge not before a dramatic collision between compatriots Lando Norris and Piastri. Norris, driving with huge intent and trying to overtake Piastri, hit the Australian at the tail, but veered away himself to the side, which put him out of the race. Though Norris did apologise to his team-mate,  the damage had been done. Antonelli took advantage of this drama at his back and ensured his podium finish.

Verstappen Keeps His Cool Amongst The Mayhem

A fine race indeed with a great day for Mercedes and Red Bull. Verstappen is keeping himself within striking distance of the leaders. With this season already showing much more competition, an extremely interesting future awaits Formula 1 this year.

Kudos to George Russell and the Mercedes Team.
