Shreyas Punctures MI Dreams, Guides Punjab To IPL Final

Shreyas Guides Punjab to IPL Finals

IPL Awaits A Maiden Champion As Shreyas Lead Punjab Reach Finals

On the 3rd of June, the  Indian Premier League will have a new Champion and a maiden one at that. Royal Challengers Bengaluru will clash with Shreyas lead Punjab Kings for the coveted IPL Crown for the 2025 season, which they have never won. After a gruelling couple of months of witnessing some breathtaking cricket, finding new heroes, and rediscovering some old ones, the tournament is on the cusp of its final match as history beckons two brilliant teams.

Shreyas Iyer in Belligerent Form

Shreyas Iyer has been in fine form for almost a year now. His bat has done the talking, but what has impressed me the most is his fast-developing flair for leadership and captaincy. The innings played by Shreyas Iyer late last night to shatter MI’s dreams for their 6th IPL title will go down as one of the finest knocks in the history of the competition.

A Historic Innings From Shreyas to Defy MI

The innings from Shreyas had it all. Scintillating strokeplay, unflinching composure, stoic resistance, and steely determination. His unconquered 87 runs of 41 balls, decorated with 5 fours and 8 sixes with a strike rate of 212.20, were worth their weight in gold. His 26 runs in the 19th over, studded with 4 sixes to finish the game, were sheer class. It is a shame that Shreyas Iyer has missed the bus to England. It is absolutely difficult to fathom.

Inglis and Wadhera Too Play Their Part

Josh Inglis and Nehal Wadhera also played their part in Punjab’s victory. Inglis came out with all guns blazing despite losing Prabhsimran early. He took 20 runs off a Bumrah over, which is a rarity and an exceptional event. That 20 run over in a way pegged back MI. Nehal Wadhera joined Shreyas and put on an entertaining and match-winning 84-run partnership that steered Punjab to victory. Nehal too has been a revelation for Punjab Kings, playing crucial knocks at critical times. His contribution has to be one of the factors of Punjab’s success this season.

MI Restricted By Punjab

Earlier, MI got to 203 in their allotted 20 overs after a much delayed start due to rain in Ahmedabad. Bairstow, Tilak Varma, SKY, and then Naman Dheer played decent knocks to get to a good score. Punjab bowled well with change of pace and slow into-the-pitch short balls, which got the better of the MI batters. Kyle Jamieson was the pick of the bowlers for Punjab. Omarzai too bowled well to scalp a couple. In the end, it was a par score that MI could not defend.

Focus Shifts To The Final

The focus now moves to the final. Two good sides playing some fabulous cricket will lock horns tomorrow night. All eyes will be on Virat Kohli as he will be trying his luck for the 4th time for the IPL Trophy. Luck has deserted him so far. Also, the opposition is on a high after an incredible win over MI. Shreyas Iyer is now a towering edifice and will not be easy to surmount. There is all to play for.

A Cracker of a game awaits.
