My First Stint

What jobs have you had?

My first experience of a job was  my internship or 6 months summer training in the final year of my Engineering Degree. I was placed in the Quality Assurance department of a major switchgear Plant. It was simply my baptism with fire as I was put through the rigours of work in the department and also on the shop floor. The tough schedule at the college helped me face the challenging demands of my department  in the factory.

Required to travel from one corner of Mumbai to the other, I used to be up at 3.30 in the morning with monsoon rains lashing and blowing my umbrella away as I trudged to catch the first bus for the railway station. A train journey and then again a bus would help me reach the factory. A hard days work ensued and then a tough trudge back home.

My stint in the factory was indeed a huge learning curve for me. It taught me to push myself to the limit physically and mentally, to be disciplned, to be a good team player, take initiatives and lead when required. My 6 months summer training held me in good stead and shaped my long career as a retail banker .
