Manchester City, sulking after the loss to Crystal Palace in the FA Cup Final, were looking for redemption and a good finish to the season. However, the opponents were a tough bunch of Cherries: AFC Bournemouth, the visitors to the Etihad Stadium last night, and it was the legend, Kevin de Bruyne’s last game for City at home too.
Omar Marmoush Scores An Epic For City
Omar Marmoush made a memorable one for De Bruyne, with a thunderous right-footer from way outside the box. The ball flew like a thunderbolt and rattled the top right corner of the goal, beating the goalkeeper’s outstretched right hand. The sensational strike lifted the fans from their seats. The commentator on air judged the goal as one of the best ever scored at the Etihad Stadium. Such was the quality of the strike in the 14th minute.
Bournemouth Get A Consolation Goal But Manchester City Wrap Up The Match
Kevin de Bruyne missed an absolute sitter from a Marmoush assist, but Bernardo Silva made it 2-0 and then a fine strike from Nico Gonzalez in the 89th minute sealed the match for City. Bournemouth got a consolation goal in stoppage time through Jebbison. City, eventually emerged victorious 3-1 and moved to 3rd on the IPL Table with a confirmed place in the UEFA Champions League next season.
De Bruyne Gets A Great Farewell
Kevin de Bruyne, the great servant of Manchester City was given a befitting farewell as the lights dimmed in the stadium and focussed on the Belgian legend and his family. A man of few words and emotions, de Bruyne wept as accolades were showered by his peers, colleagues et al. What a player he has been.
