LSG In A Tight Spot
With 10 points from 11 games, the Lucknow Super Giants, the team of my City is in a tight spot vis a vis qualification to the play offs. Pushed to 7th in the IPL table with a negative net run rate, LSG are in danger of being dragged out of the play off race. The loss to Punjab Kings last night has dealt my team a severe blow.
A Mixed IPL Season For LSG So Far
It has been a mixed season for the Lucknow Nawabs, with ups and downs in equal measure, akin to inconsistency more so in the batting than bowling. Unfortunately, the poor form of captain Rishabh Pant and David Miller has led to this situation.
Top-Heavy Batting Is Hurting
Mitch Marsh, Aiden Markram and Nicholas Pooran have done the bulk of scoring and though Pooran has gone a bit over the boil with 5 consecutive poor scores, Ayush Badoni has taken up the cudgels and scored for LSG. Undoubtedly it is a top heavy batting unit, and if they fail to fire, the middle order has not been able to take the ship forward.
Bowling Has Been Consistent But Suffered Last Night In Dharmashala
The bowling also suffered last night. Mayank Yadav, coming back from injury, is not bowling at full tilt, while Avesh Khan, who has been impressive so far, had a bad night as Punjab batters drilled into the LSG bowlers to put up a massive 236 in 20 overs.
As The Top Order Perished, LSG Crumbled Too
Mitch Marsh, Markram, and Pooran perished in the power play, and once they left, LSG just had no chance. Pant and Miller did not make much of a difference. Badoni and Samad played a good hand, but eventually LSG fell short by a good 37 runs.
Need to Finish On A High
The writing is on the wall, but LSG can still finish on a high and win their next 3 games to reach 16 points and hope for the best.
