SRH, One Of The Favourites, Ejected From Play-Off Race
The Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) was the team to watch at the start of the IPL 2025. The runners-up last year, the Orange Brigade, had taken T20 batting to a new pedestal. Fans and critics alike were in awe of their swashbuckling and merciless assaults on bowlers. Even Team owners lost their cool ( remember the Goenka-KL Rahul spat). However, the euphoria soon died down as SRH failed quite astoundingly and were ejected from the play-off race rather unceremoniously.
Rain in Hyderabad Washes Away SRH Hopes
As the rain poured in Hyderabad, the already bleak chances of SRH getting to the play-offs swiftly evaporated. The Hyderabadis had for once bowled brilliantly to restrict the mighty Delhi Capitals to 133 and were looking to get their 4th win in 11 games and keep themselves technically alive in the competition. But the rains spoiled the show as the match was called off, and SRH, with 7 points from 11 games, were shown the door.
Woeful Batting Display From SRH
I have been utterly disappointed with the performance from this extremely talented team. Barring two occasions ( in the first match where SRH batters made mince meat of RR bowlers to record a staggering 286 in 20 overs and then when they chased down 246 against Punjab Kings), the SRH batting was listless to say the least. The opposition bowlers had learnt from last year and were much wiser, while SRH batters had several no brainers. Hitting with eyes closed and playing only across the line cost the Nizams dear.
Klassen On The Wane
Abhishek Sharma and Ishan Kishan played just two innings of note in 11 games, while Travis Head flattered to deceive on all occasions. Heinrich Klassen did play a few rear guard counter-attacks, but was much subdued. He did not light up the venues as he was expected to do. Klassen seems to be on the wane unfortunately.
An Invisible Nitish Reddy A Big Blow To SRH
Nitish Reddy, invisible with the bat and ball, was a big blow to SRH. His performance last year was one of the factors of SRH’s rise, but the youngster was totally off colour. Aniket Verma, one of the finds this year, did his bit. Coming back to Ishan Kishan in particular, he was woefully inconsistent and though he got a central contract with his century in the first game, he lost a great opportunity to get back into the Indian team.
The SRH Bowling – A Huge Disappointment
The Orange Brigade’s bowling was pathetic all throughout barring the match yesterday. Pat Cummins was taken to the cleaners and so was the tiring Mohd Shami. The two great bowlers were a massive letdown. The bowling department hinged on them and came off completely like the wheels of a cart. Harshal Patel was the only saving grace, while rookie Zeeshan Ansari bowled well in patches. To sum it up, the bowling was another no-brainer and as timid as it could be.
Sulking SRH Fans
Sunrisers Hyderabad simply crumbled under their own weight, and the players needed to take responsibility for such a poor show. I know the SRH fans would be sulking.
