“You play games like this to win it, and that’s what we are going to try to do” – Arne Slot, Liverpool Manager.
“We want to break that wait for a trophy. It’s not a negative“- Eddie Howe, Newcastle United Manager.
Liverpool & Newcastle To Clash At Wembley
The Carabao EFL Cup Final will be held at the Wembley Stadium on Sunday evening. Liverpool, the defending Champions would be taking on Newcastle United in what is expected to be an exciting clash given the recent form of both teams.
Arne Slot’s Amazing Run
Arne Slot, Liverpool’s Dutch Manager has had an amazingly smooth and successful transition after taking over from Jurgen Klopp. The former Feyenoord Manager is within touching distance of the English Premier League Crown and though the FA Cup loss to Plymouth and the more recent UEFA Champions League exit to PSG would be hurting the Reds, the Carabao Cup presents a great opportunity to settle the pain and embalm the wounds.
A 56 Year Wait for Newcastle
Newcastle United on the other hand are without a major title since 56 years. But the Magpies, which once were struggling with poor performances and a tumbling graph are a changed team now. Their takeover by a Saudi consortium in 2021, followed by the appointment of Eddie Howe have put Newcastle back on track and will be posing a serious challenge to Liverpool in the final tomorrow.
Alexander Isak Newcastle’s Talisman
The spotlight will be on Alexander Isak, the Swede who has been a revelation for Newcastle and with his partner in crime the brilliant Anthony Gordon suspended for a game, the onus will be more on Isak to make it happen for the Magpies.
Mo Salah, Liverpool ‘s Ace
For Liverpool, Mo Salah hogs the limelight as always and the Liverpool fans would be wishing Salah scores in the all-important final. Though the absence of Trent Alexander Arnold due to injury is a problem for Slot, Liverpool’s decorated forward line-up and the towering edifice of Virgil van Dijk in defense is ominous for any opposition.
The Test Of Nerves
A great contest is on the cards and the team which holds its nerves in front of a packed Wembley and millions watching worldwide, would take the honours.
Liverpool Have The Edge
Newcastle have nothing to lose but Liverpool have the edge and Newcastle’s wait for some silverware might get a bit more prolonged.
My Prediction: 2-1 Liverpool
