Gladiator

What movies or TV series have you watched more than 5 times?

There are a few movies which I have watched over 5 times in all these years, but the one that stands out for me is ‘Gladiator’.

I watched Gladiator in the year 2001 at the exquisite Sterling Theatre in Mumbai. A saga of vengeance, Gladiator was a directorial masterpiece, decorated with great visuals, tremendous action and compelling performances.

Maximus, the great General of the Roman Army, played brilliantly by Russell Crowe, is betrayed by the Emperor’s son Commodus. Maximus’ family is murdered but he escapes. An injured Maximus is given refuge by a former Gladiator. Maximus earns his trust and joins his team of slaves as a Gladiator himself. He returns to Rome to participate in the games at the Collesium and eventually has his revenge.

Joaquin Phoenix, essaying the role of Commodus is brilliant too. His extremely brutal but suave personality was the perfect foil to the great Maximus. Ridley Scott the director of the movie was exceptional at the helm.

Russell Crowe deservedly won the Oscar Award for best actor. He was  sensational in the film.

I have lost count of the number of times I have watched Gladiator.
