Sinner Defends His Title
The defending Champion Jannik Sinner defended his title confidently, stoically and flawlessly. The Italian won his second consecutive Australian Open Title in a straight sets 6-3, 7-6, 6-3 victory over Alexander Zverev at the majestically blue Rod Laver Arena in Melbourne.
Zverev Fights Hard
Sinner proved yet again as to why he is at the moment the best player in the world. The consistency in his game is matchless and Alexander Zverev realised the same as the match progressed. The second set was the only duration where Zverev looked to pose a serious challenge to Sinner but an unfortunate net chord at 4-4 in the tie-break virtually snuffed out the challenge from Zverev. Sinner won the next two points and with it the second set.
The Champion Gets Too Far Ahead
Sinner had gotten so far ahead that it was impossible for Zverev to surmount the gap. His resistance faded with losing the second set. He had given everything into it but still could not force his way through. The third set went Sinner’s way again and with it the match and the Championship.
Sinner’s Unrelenting Play
Sinner’s unrelenting intent in the match was fascinating. The level of his game hardly dropped. His focus was absolutely unflinching. The quality of his groundstrokes and his ability to stay with the opponent all the time was too much for Zverev to handle. And as the baseline rallies increased, there was no way Sinner was losing it. With immaculate fitness and an almost weakness free game, Sinner was too difficult to dislodge.
A One Sided Affair In The End
The match did not rise to the simmering heights witnessed in the Women’s Singles Final. It was more of a routine, an almost one sided affair.
Jannik Sinner has taken a giant leap in Men’s tennis. Even Alcaraz looks a fair bit behind.
