Test Cricket At Its Best
Test Cricket was at its best as an exhilarating day unfolded at Brisbane. The Match already marred with incessant rain breaks, Australia threw everything at India, but the visitors fought tooth and nail, battered and bruised but still survived and averted the follow-on.
Pat Cummins & Starc Bowl Their Hearts Out
Australia without the services of injured Josh Hazelwood had a tough task ahead with just 3 bowlers to make India follow-on. No wonder Pat Cummins and Mitch Starc bowled their hearts out and tried every trick in their repertoire. Their staggering effort almost paid the desired dividend before their tiring bodies could not dislodge India’s gritty last wicket pair of Bumrah and Akash Deep.
KL Rahul & Jadeja Fight Hard
KL Rahul and Jadeja were the architect of India’s escape. Rahul was in sublime form batting the way only he can. He drove and cut with consummate ease and in the company of Jadeja put up a rollicking partnership. However, a brilliant catch from Steve Smith dismissed Rahul for a majestic 86 bringing an end to a critical 67 run partnership. Ravindra Jadeja once again proved his versitality as a player as he played with the tail and egged them on, before departing close to the finish line for a very fine 77.
Akash Deep & Bumrah Defy
It was then left to Akash Deep and Bumrah who saw India through before the day was called off. Akash Deep showed his batting prowess and steely temperament in his unbeaten 27 run knock and played the senior role in his partnership with Bumrah.
A Draw In Sight
Australia, though , are still ahead and have a massive lead over India, would be required to bat again and with the weather playing a major part , a draw appears to be the most likely outcome of the match.
Kudos to the resolve of Rahul, Jadeja, Akash Deep and Bumrah.
