Etihad Stadium Played Host to the 195th Derby
It was the 195th Manchester Derby between the great rivals Manchester United and Manchester City last night. United travelled to the Etihad Stadium under new coach Ruben Amorim to face City and under fire Pep Guardiola. An interesting contest was on the cards as both teams were looking for some serious redemption.
Gvardiol Head’s Manchester City Ahead
Josko Gvardiol scored for Manchester City in the 36th minute with a fine header from a Kevin de Bruyne cross. The tall defender has exhibited goal scoring skills and is particularly good in the air. City had drawn first blood and though the football was not stunning, Manchester City were able to keep United at bay in the first half.

Bruno Misses A Sitter
In the second half too City were able to keep their lead intact and though Bruno Fernandes missed a sitter from an Amad Diallo pass, United were knocking fiercely on the City goal for quite some time. One could sense that something was about to happen and so it did.
Nunes Error Helps United Equalise
Matheus Nunes made a terrible back pass straight in line for Amad Diallo to intercept and then made it even worse by bringing down Amad in the box to concede a penalty. Bruno Fernandes scored from the spot in the 86th minute and equalised for United. Pep Guardiola with his hands on his head just could not believe what he had witnessed. City had made a serious mistake.

Sensational Amad Diallo Sinks City
The little window which City handed over to United was ripped wide open by an exceptional Amad Diallo yet again. In the 90th minute Lisandro Martinez directed a long ball to a super quick Amad Diallo who controlled the high ball brilliantly, flicked it over a charging Ederson and then struck with his left foot. The ball rolled into the net to give United a winning 2-1 lead.
Manchester City : Crisis Deepens
In just 4 minutes an expected Manchester City victory turned into another nightmare for the hosts adding further misery to an already suffering Pep Guardiola. With just one win in 11 games in all competitions, Manchester City are facing an unprecedented crisis which does not seem to be ending soon. A fragile defence, an indifferent Erling Haaland, lack of self confidence and a plummeting self belief have hit City very hard. The defending Champions have fallen out of the top 4 and are now placed 5th behind Nottingham Forest in the EPL table.
A Big Boost For Manchester United
For Manchester United it turned out to be a great result. Their perseverance paid off and though they stand at 13th on the leaderboard, winning the Manchester Derby will surely give them a much needed philip. No wonder Ruben Amorim was all smiles when the referee blew the long whistle.
Amad Diallo was sensational for Manchester United and was easily my player of the match.
