Spain, My Team Of The Year

Spain, The Team of the Year

The Mesmerizing Spain

Football from Spain has always been delightful. Nicknamed La Roja ( The Red One ), the Spanish Football Team, despite being in Europe, has always been closer to the mesmerizing and fluid South American Style. No wonder La Rojas have always been attractive to watch and have been one of the most successful teams in World Football. The year 2024 was no different, as Spain for me was indeed the Team of the Year.

La Roja Which Dominated 2008-12

Spain dominated World Football from 2008 to 2012, winning 2 Euro Championships and a World Cup in between. The team boasted of some generational talent in the form of Iniesta, Xavi, Xabi Alonso, Fernando Torres, David Villa etc.. I see sparks of that talent in the present mix of players representing Spain.

Spain The Well Deserved Euro Winners

Spain winning the Euro Championships in July this year may just be the catalyst for bigger things to come, quite similar to the run witnessed in 2008. The performance in the tournament was brilliant. The team appeared heads and shoulders above the rest and were deserved winners in the final against England outplaying the Three Lions in all departments.

Blessed With Incredible Talent

The generational talent which the team possessed in 2008, is there on display in 2024 as well. I have been extremely impressed with Dani Olmo and Bryan Zaragoza. The 22 year old Nico Williams is as good as one can be and in teenager Lamine Yamal Spain might have discovered the next Messi. And to top it all the Ballon D’Or winner Rodri rounds up an incredible footballing potential for Spain. These players  are young and can serve Spain for a long time. Such depth in talent at the moment cannot be seen in other teams.

Spain Close Out The Year On A High

Spain finished their 2024 engagements with a narrow 3-2  victory over Switzerland in Santa Cruz, Spain in the UEFA Nations League. La Roja remain firmly on top of their group with 5 wins in 6 matches and a draw.

It was Spain’s year of success and dominance and it was an easy decision for me to pick my Team of the Year.
