My Two Cherished Encounters

Who is the most famous or infamous person you have ever met?

I have met a few film stars and politicians both famous and infamous. However, there have been two encounters, not in person, but on a phone call, which I really cherish.

The first one was my communication with India’s greatest cricketer Kapil Dev. I was to meet him through a family connection, but I couldn’t make it. So we had a discussion on the phone. I mentioned to him his famous catch to dismiss Viv Richards in the 83 Finals and a few of his many magical deliveries which he bowled in his career. He was very humble on the phone and was surprised how much I knew about his career.

The second instant was again a telephonic conversation with India’s legendary Hockey player Mohd Shahid. A majestic hockey player he was. His dribbling skills were remarkable and so were his scoring abilities. One of the greats of the game. I had planned to meet him, but again I missed the opportunity.  He too was very humble when we spoke. Mohd Shahid, unfortunately fell ill and passed away rather quickly.
