India win big at Johannesburg
India trounced South Africa by a mammoth 106 runs in the 3rd T20 played out at the New Wanderers Stadium in Johannesburg. The ( not so ) second-string South African Team ( they still had Reeza Hendricks, Aiden Markram, Heinrich Klassen, David Miller, Keshav Maharaj and Shamsi ) experienced a great torment at the hands of a young Indian side almost rookiesque at the International level.
The T20 Nucleus almost Formed
The team under Surya Kumar Yadav, the SKY of T20 cricket has quietly established itself as a Team of some substance and swagger and with the T20 World Cup not so far away, I think the nucleus of the team expected to represent India in the West Indies and the USA may have already evolved.
A Thrilling SKY…
I am impressed with SKY, particularly the way he has handled a young side and also for his performances. His 4th T20 century coming at Johannesburg in a must-win game, exhibits extensively not only his skill and audacity with the bat in the T20s but also his temperament. He also does not appear sketchy as a captain having led Mumbai in the Ranji Trophy and therefore it may not be a surprise if SKY may just become the front-runner for India’s full-fledged T20 captain.
…At The Helm
SKY is a towering personality amongst the younger players, and how well he has taken the entire team under his wings so to say, is a precursor to an inevitable shift in leadership. The contributions from Yashasvi Jaiswal, Tilak Verma, Ravi Bishnoi,Mukesh Kumar, Jitesh Sharma and of course the splendid Rinku Singh in more victories than losses, may be a statement in SKY’s favour for the top post.
Indian Team : A Power Brand
The return of Rohit to T20s is still a matter of conjecture and if there is further delay in Hardik’s fitness, SKY would be the ideal choice going forward, particularly to ensure the continuity and flourishing of this young team and their brand of fearless, awe-inspiring cricket.
Another World Cup beckons in a short time and SKY may just be the one encompassing under his enormousness our young cricketers, alongside the emotions of a highly expectant Indian fan.
And as I write this post, Hardik Pandya has replaced Rohit Sharma as the captain of Mumbai Indians. No surprises at all.
