2021: A Year Like No Other

2021 has a been a Year with its more than a fair share of ups and downs and highs and lows. It was not a normal year but I would say a ‘kaleidoscopic year’ filled with varied colours and shades. So let’s look through this kaleidoscope before we say good bye to 2021 .

The pandemic was a major concern in the first half of the year across the world . The second wave hit us rather hard. The impact of it was felt by one and all. Losing friends and relatives to the dreaded virus was nerve wracking. For me getting infected and then recovering was an experience never to be forgotten. However we fought back with a massive vaccination exercise and people from across the globe braved the situation.

Notwithstanding the pandemic, the Economies of the world got back on their feet. The markets opened, business started slowly gaining normalcy, Travel and Tourism, one of the most affected industries began to look up . The resilience of the human race and its ability to fight the odds showed up across the world. Joe Biden assumed the Presidency of the United States. The Dubai Expo, the much awaited extravaganza of the UAE opened with much fanfare and of course the much awaited James Bond Movie ‘ No Time to Die ‘ eventually saw the light of day.

However, being a sports enthusiast all my life, the beginning of sporting events well and truly brought a smile on my face. Sports is a great leveller and has the ability to bring communities and countries together. It was really exciting with a number of major events happening in a small span of time. There was so much to write about them that I thought it best to have a snapshot of my favourite 10 sporting moments of the year.

On my professional front too, I took some major decisions which are taken only once in a life time. As we say in corporate parlance, I took some strategic decisions, having long term impacts. From a full fledged well entrenched retail banker, I have turned into an author, blogger and ex-banker. I decided to pursue my interests after a long banking career. It was like surrendering a Masters Degree and going back to school. But school days are the best aren’t they?.

The publishing of my books Polish September and Amalgam alongwith my well received blogs on rizkhan.in will surely go down as the highlights of this year for me. Though I have just started my new journey and have a long way to go, I am prepared for 2022…..and what about you ?.

Please do write to me on khanriz837@gmail.com and let me know your preparations. It would be fun interacting and learning from all of you.

Have a great Year ahead.
