Writing a book makes you experience a wide spectrum of emotions. From outright insecurity at the start of the book to sheer joy on its completion. There are various challenges on the way and several ups and downs, however, a strong desire to complete the book to your satisfaction, eventually sees you through.

Flow Chart Method
I relied a lot on my Flow Chart Method. The sketchy plot in my mind at the beginning had to be brought down on paper. Whatever I thought, whatever was the sequence of events in my imagination, I jotted all down in the form of a Flow chart. The plot when appeared on paper in the form of a flow diagram, made life easy to start. The boxes in the flow chart had to be worked upon and expanded. I took one box at a time, and then after completing the box, went to the next one and the story began to build.
Having a research book
It is also always better to have a separate note book for research work. It really helped me to add more teeth and authenticity to the subject.
Consistency
However, consistency is the key. One should not have large gaps between writing periods. The interest then tends to wane. I experienced this a lot during the course of my writing. Writing, in my opinion is about consistent work. If not daily, do write twice a week at least, a bare minimum, to keep the interest and the zeal alive.
