The Beginning After the EndThe Beginning After the End

The Beginning After the End is an isekai fantasy about a king who gets a second chance at life. Based on TurtleMe’s web novel and webcomic, it has two anime seasons. This guide explains the story, the world of Dicathen and the main characters. For release and reception details, see our earlier piece.

The Story

The series follows King Grey, a powerful ruler who dies unexpectedly and mysteriously. He is reborn as Arthur Leywin, a baby in the magical continent of Dicathen, and keeps the memories of his past life. This time, he wants to correct his earlier mistakes. Born to retired adventurers Reynolds and Alice, Arthur awakens his mana core at around the age of two.

The World of Dicathen

Dicathen is a world of magic and fantastical creatures, divided into three kingdoms: Darv, Elenoir and Sapin. Mana and the mana core are central to its power system, and a character’s strength depends on how they develop that core. Later arcs introduce a rival faction called Alacrya, which raises the stakes beyond a single kingdom.

Main Characters

  • Arthur Leywin / King Grey, voiced by Natsumi Fujiwara and Makoto Furukawa (English: Amber May and Christopher Wehkamp).
  • Tessia Eralith, the elven princess and a key figure in his life, voiced by Kana Ichinose.
