Most anticipated movies of 2027 include a Marvel multiverse finale, a new Superman adventure and the return of Shrek, Frozen and The Lord of the Rings. According to Looper’s list of 20 films to watch, next year looks packed for fans of superheroes, horror, fantasy and animation. Here are the biggest titles, grouped by genre, with release dates.
Superhero and Sci-Fi Giants
Man of Tomorrow (July 9)

James Gunn’s Superman sequel pairs David Corenswet’s Man of Steel with Nicholas Hoult’s Lex Luthor against Brainiac. Adria Arjona joins as Maxima, and fans are already guessing about bigger DC plans.
Avengers: Secret Wars (Dec. 17)

Marvel’s only 2027 film wraps the Multiverse Saga and follows Avengers: Doomsday. A Battleworld setting could allow for surprise returns and final sendoffs. If you want to see how Marvel’s big-screen push begins, check our guide to upcoming movies fall 2026.
Star Wars: Starfighter (May 28)

Starring Ryan Gosling, it is an original story that needs no homework, arriving on Star Wars’ 50th anniversary.
Godzilla x Kong: Supernova (March 26)

Toy leaks suggest SpaceGodzilla is the villain, and the film includes a posthumous Sam Neill performance.
Animation and Family Favorites
Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse (June 18). After years of delays, Miles Morales finally returns for the trilogy finale. If it lands, it could become one of the best trilogies ever made.

Narnia: The Magician’s Nephew (Feb. 12). Greta Gerwig’s adaptation gets a theatrical release before reaching Netflix on April 2.
The Lord of the Rings: The Hunt for Gollum (Dec. 17). Andy Serkis directs and stars, with Jamie Dornan as Aragorn and Ian McKellen back as Gandalf. It opens the same day as Secret Wars, setting up a huge face-off. For more on franchises that waited a long time, read our look at movie sequels that took years to reach the big screen.
