The Stakes

Both sides sit on six points. Barcelona arrive on an 11-match winning run in which they’ve scored 48 goals, and they haven’t dropped a point all season. PSG are chasing a historic three-peat and have been just as ruthless: a 6-1 win over Slovan Bratislava, then a 4-2 win at Manchester City in which they led 3-0 inside half an hour.

Barcelona have a Clásico at the weekend, so a win here would be a statement before another one.

Form Guide

PSG: Luis Enrique’s side are fast, fluid and dangerous. Dembélé, Doué and Kvaratskhelia make up a front three that can end a game in 20 minutes.

Barcelona: Flick has moved to a more fluid 4-3-3 with Rodri anchoring midfield, and the high press is back. They beat Real Betis 5-2 at the weekend, though the game was closer than it sounds.

Team news

Both teams have defensive problems. PSG are without Nuno Mendes (thigh), so Lucas Digne is expected at left-back. Barcelona’s list is longer: Christensen, Eric García and Bardghji are out, Gerard Martín is a doubt, and Kounde (ankle) is the one to watch, with reports differing on whether he starts. Raphinha is back and expected to start, which is a big plus for Barca.

Key battles

Yamal vs. PSG’s left side: Digne in for Mendes is a test, and Lamine Yamal will fancy it.

Dembélé and Kvaratskhelia vs. a thin Barcelona back line: Cubarsí will need help.

Midfield control: Rodri and Pedri against Vitinha, Neves and Fabián Ruiz decides who dictates the tempo.

RIZZSPORTS Call

Don’t expect a clean sheet. With full-backs missing on both sides, this has the feel of a goal-fest, and both of these teams have been scoring freely. PSG 2-2 Barcelona sounds interesting, but there may be a late sting in the tail.
