One Piece Egghead arc

Spoilers ahead. The One Piece Egghead arc matters because it changes what readers and viewers know about the world. It opens the series’ Final Saga, introduces Dr. Vegapunk at last and reveals long-hidden history through a broadcast the whole world hears.

The Start of the Final Saga

Egghead is the first arc of One Piece’s Final Saga. After leaving Wano, the Straw Hats reach a futuristic island that serves as the laboratory of the world’s most brilliant scientist. The manga arc runs from roughly chapter 1058 to 1116, and the anime began adapting it from episode 1089.

Dr. Vegapunk Finally Appears

After many years, the series finally introduces Vegapunk and shows why he has become a target for the World Government. The Five Elders decide to remove him after learning he has been researching the Void Century. That makes Egghead a story about the cost of knowing the truth.

The Broadcast That Changes Everything

Vegapunk prepared a message in case he was killed. After his death, it plays worldwide and reveals fragments of the Void Century and how it affects the present. It also hints that the One Piece treasure may determine the world’s fate. One reviewer argues the broadcast reframes the setting itself: today’s islands may be the remains of continents flooded in the distant past.

Luffy’s Power on Display

The arc is also a showcase for Luffy. His Gear 5 fight against Admiral Kizaru is a major milestone, and the anime treats it as a highlight, with some of its best animation. A rematch with Rob Lucci lets Luffy show the transformation again.

A Divided Reaction, a Lasting Impact

Fans were split on whether Egghead ranks among the best arcs or lacked depth. Still, it set up the Final Saga’s biggest players and the next destination, Elbaf. The anime wrapped up the arc in December 2025 and moved on to Elbaf. Our guide to the One Piece anime hiatus and its 2027 return covers what comes next.
