After more than five years without a regular television run, Black Clover is back. Season 2 premiered on October 3, 2026, and the wait explains why it is one of the biggest anime returns of the year.
Why the Wait Mattered
The first television series ran for 170 episodes on TV Tokyo, from October 2017 to March 2021. A film, Black Clover: Sword of the Wizard King, reached Netflix in June 2023, but the TV story paused in the middle of a major conflict. Season 2 was announced at Anime Expo in July 2025.
A Return to the Spade Kingdom Conflict
The new season picks up the fight against the Spade Kingdom and its Dark Triad, an arc many fans count among their favorites. The Magic Knights are drawn into a war that also reveals how devils have shaped the lives of Asta and Yuno. For many viewers, this is the story they have been waiting to see animated again.
Familiar Studio, Familiar Director
Studio Pierrot is animating the season, and Ayataka Tanemura, who also directed part of the earlier run, returns as director. That continuity reassures fans who worried about a change in direction after such a long gap.
What Fans Can Look Forward To
Asta’s growth is a central draw. Our breakdown of Asta’s Devil Union form covers how his bond with Liebe develops. Other characters also get attention, as we discuss in our piece on whether Mereoleona is the strongest Magic Knight.
How Many Episodes, and Where to Watch
Episodes air on Saturdays and stream on Crunchyroll. Episode 3 is due on October 17. The total episode count has not been officially confirmed in the sources reviewed. One report suggests 24 episodes, while a schedule listing runs to 12 episodes through December 19, so treat both numbers as unconfirmed. Our Black Clover Season 2 release schedule is useful for tracking updates.
The Verdict So Far
Anticipation is not the same as quality, and long gaps raise expectations. Even so, the combination of a beloved arc, a returning director and a loyal fanbase makes Season 2 hard to ignore.
