Incident Overview
Newly released body camera footage has brought attention back to a March incident involving Dallas Wings players Arike Ogunbowale and Paige Bueckers. The video, which is about one minute and 48 seconds long, was recorded around 4:15 a.m. on March 5 outside the E11EVEN nightclub in Miami. Ogunbowale, Bueckers, and other WNBA players were celebrating Ogunbowale’s championship win in the 2026 Unrivalled Women’s basketball league. They were escorted out of the venue before the situation escalated.
What the Video Shows
In the footage, Bueckers can be seen trying to calm things down. An officer approaches Ogunbowale and tries to grab her wrist to make an arrest. Ogunbowale pulls her hand away, but the officer manages to hold on to her. The situation quickly becomes tense. The officer pulls out a taser and tells the crowd to back up. Bueckers puts her arm around Ogunbowale and repeatedly tells the officer that they have her. At that point, the taser is pointed at Bueckers as well.
Other WNBA players, including Maria Clifton, Jackie Young, and DiJonai Carrington, can also be seen in the video. They are heard pleading with the officer to let Ogunbowale go. Despite the tense moments, Ogunbowale is ultimately detained. As the officer takes her to the car, Clifton is heard shouting that they should not put handcuffs on her and calling her a champion.
Charges and Outcome
According to reports, the players were involved in an altercation inside the nightclub. Ogunbowale was arrested after allegedly punching a security staff member in the face. Police reviewed the nightclub’s CCTV footage and found the complaint from the alleged victim consistent. Ogunbowale was charged with a misdemeanour count of battery. She was later released on a $1,000 bond. The case against her was dropped in May before the WNBA season began.
Playoff Timing Adds Pressure
The timing of the footage’s release is difficult for the Dallas Wings. The team has just one game left before the playoffs begin. Dallas will face the Seattle Storm on September 23 at Climate Pledge Arena. The Wings currently sit seventh in the WNBA standings. After a recent 87-86 loss to the Phoenix Mercury, they are expected to enter the playoffs in the bottom two of the top eight.
If that holds, Dallas will have to face either the Minnesota Lynx or the Golden State Valkyries. The Wings lost all of their regular-season matchups against both teams. With the postseason only a game away, the team’s focus should be on the court. Instead, an incident from months ago has put two of Dallas’s biggest names back in the spotlight. Neither Paige Bueckers, Ogunbowale, nor the Wings have addressed the latest footage. Their attention remains on the playoffs.
