Atletico Win Madrid Derby
The much anticipated Madrid Derby, played at the Riyadh Air Metropolitano, Atletico Madrid’s home ground, was won by Atletico 2-1 in a tight contest, with Real Madrid reduced to 10 men in a controversial Red Card decision in the 50th minute.
The 51st Minute Turner…
After a first-half goalless deadlock, the match turned its course in the 51st-Minute. Referee Alejandro Muñiz Ruiz initially showed Real Madrid defender Dean Huijsen a yellow card and awarded a penalty after a foul on Giuliano Simeone. …And Atlético Take Advantage With A Double
Alejandro Grimaldo converted the resulting 52nd-minute penalty kick to put Atlético ahead 1–0. Six minutes later, Jonathan David doubled the hosts’ lead in the 58th minute to take a stranglehold on the match.
A Triple Whammy For Real…
It was a triple whammy for Real. The 51st-minute disturbance had led to two goals and the visitors were reduced to 10 men. But Real Madrid pulled one back in the 89th minute via an Antonio Rüdiger header off a Bernardo Silva free-kick, but could not complete the comeback.

… And The Derby Lost
The Derby was lost for Real. Atletico fought tooth and nail, so Diego Simeone like, and denied any chance for Real to come back. The controversy apart, Atletico in my opinion were deserved winners.
Real Madrid Protest
Real Madrid released an official statement voicing strong frustration with the refereeing decisions. The club specifically highlighted the 50th-minute sequence where the referee initially issued a yellow card before being summoned to the monitor to upgrade it to a red card, arguing the call fundamentally altered the match.
Tough For Jose Mourinho
After the win, Atletico Madrid moved to 2nd place on the La Liga leaderboard, behind a rampant Barcelona, while Real Madrid fell to 4th position after 7 games. As it stands, it will not be easy for Jose Mourinho in his second essay at Real.
