Liverpool ensured their progress in the EFL Carabao Cup with a tough 3-1 win over a much-improved Tottenham Hotspur side at Anfield last night.
Three Brilliant Goals from Mac Allister, Gakpo and Szoboszlai Seal The Deal
Liverpool scored 3 gems in the match, which bore testimony to the ability and skill of Alexis Mac Allister, Cody Gakpo and Szoboszlai. The goals scored were rippers, making inroads not only in the Tottenham defence but also in the mind of Spurs.

Despite the loss, it was a much better performance from Tottenham
The result notwithstanding, it was a much improved performance from Tottenham and they managed to score their first goal of the season too, through Gallagher’s header in the second half. The Spurs created several chances, built up great pace and had the Liverpool defence on the edge, but could not add to the tally of 1.
Mamardashvili was incredible in front of goal
Mamardashvili was exceptional in goal and denied the Spurs several times. His save of a Marmoush strike was sensational. But it was not the only save he made in the pelting rain. Had it not been for the big Georgian, the result might have been a totally different one.

Gallagher, Marmoush, Maddison Were Good For Tottenham
Connor Gallagher, Omar Marmoush and James Maddison in the latter half of the match were great to watch, but unfortunately could not score. The difference between the two teams was the three strikes from three brilliant players, which separated Tottenham from Liverpool.
The Tottenham Defence Improved But The Finishing Was Poor
Tottenham’s defence improved, but only marginally, and their finishing lacked control and composure—no wonder the Spurs have struggled to score.
Tottenham Have Now Only EPL to Focus on
With Tottenham out of the race in the EFL Carabao Cup, they now have only the EPL to think about. The EFL loss might just be a blessing in disguise for Roberto De Zerbi’s side.
