Battle Scarred Argentina March On

Argentina beats Switzerland
Argentina In No Mood To Surrender Their Crown

The Defending Champions are in no mood to surrender their crown as they earned their semi-final spot with another hard-fought victory over an extremely resilient Switzerland outfit, which refused to give in till the last.

Mac Allister Draws First Blood With A Brilliant Header

Argentina took the lead in the 10th minute as the Kansas City Stadium erupted with a magnificent Alexis Mac Allister header off a perfect Messi corner. The corner kick just curled in enough to find Mac Allister, who placed the ball ever so perfectly with the right side of his head to get Argentina up and running.

The Resilient Swiss Equalise With An Equally Brilliant Goal From Ndoye

The Swiss, however, were not prepared to go down without a fight. They did not let Argentina score with some stoic resistance and then equalised through an incredible Dan Ndoye strike. The Nottingham Forest winger surprised the Argentinians from a difficult angle. The placement was inch-perfect to deny Emi Martinez, and the match was brought to an even keel in the 67th minute.

Kobel & The Swiss Keep Denying Argentina Despite Losing Embolo

Gregor Kobel, the Swiss goalkeeper who has earned himself a big name this World Cup, continued to defy the defending Champions despite being reduced to 10-men with Breel Embolo sent off in the 72nd minute. The match eventually went into extra time.

Julian Alvarez’s Screamer Tilts The Balance in Argentina’s Favour

Switzerland were not budging, but then the individual brilliance of the Argentine players made the difference. Julian Alvarez struck a ripper from outside the box. The ball pierced the air, curled and dipped into the goal. It was a tantalising effort from Alvarez in the 112th minute. His first goal of the tournament. The Swiss resistance had been broken by sheer talent.

A Composed Lautaro Martinez Finish Seals It For The Champions

Argentina scored another, with Lautaro Martínez completing an easy rebound with a clean shot in the dying minutes of extra time to win it for Argentina.

Exceptional Individual Brilliance Was The Only Difference

The Champions had once again fought hard to come through another gruelling battle. Switzerland did resist for a long time and showed great bravado and gumption, but lacked the exceptional individual brilliance to steal the match from Argentina.

Argentina Will Clash With England In The Semis

Argentina will now play England in Atlanta on Thursday, July 16 at 12.30 am IST, in what is expected to be another thriller.
