No Stopping The French
There is no stopping the French juggernaut, as a superb performance in Boston against Morocco earned the French a place in the semi-finals of the FIFA World Cup, for the third consecutive occasion.
A Below Par Morocco Fail To Rise…
The Moroccans, carrying hopes of the Afro-Arab World, without their main striker Ismael Saibari, never looked like pushing the French away. They were just focused on keeping Kylian Mbappé and his team at bay, and didn’t succeed.
…As A Sublime Mbappé Breaks The Shackles
Mbappé, for once, missed a penalty, a rarity, as Bono kept on defying Les Blues for an hour on the pitch. But then, the brilliance of Mbappé found a way through the Moroccan defence. A sensational strike from outside the box, curled in to beat Bono’s outstretched left hand. The shackles were broken. The French were freed.
An Incredible Dembele Doubles It…
Ousmane Dembele then doubled the lead 6 minutes later. In the 66th minute, the Ballon d’Or winner hit one past Bono from just outside the box. The ball sped past the turf as Bono, a bit late to react, failed to stop it.
…As The French Seal A Well-Deserved Win
With two goals ahead, the writing was on the wall for the Atlas Lions. In fact, they gave up easily, which was quite surprising. The French defence was hardly tested. The match just did not reach the levels which I had expected. Barring Bono’s heroics, who was left in tears after the match, there was nothing much from the other Moroccan players. The performance was rather pedestrian.
The Audacious French Will Be Difficult To Stop
Les Blues were let off, I felt. However, there is no denying the class the French team possess. They are brilliant with the ball and have the audacity and profound skill to score at will. They can only be kept silent for a while, but cannot be denied. It will take a Herculean effort to stop them now.
For me, the French are clear favourites to win the Cup, with England the closest to them.
