Swiss soccer team celebrating goal against Bosnia and Herzegovina with scoreboard showing 4-1 final score
Switzerland and Bosnia-Herzegovina Meet at Inglewood

The LA Stadium in Inglewood played host to a critical Group B game between Switzerland and Bosnia & Herzegovina. The first two matches of the group had resulted in 2 draws, and it was all to play for for both teams.

The Swiss Were Due For Redemption

Switzerland were held to a 1-1 draw by Qatar in a surprising result last week. The Swiss were below par, and with the favourites tag on their chest in Group B, the Europeans were due for some redemption.

With Another Draw Lurking, Time Was Running Out For The Swiss

The Bosnians, however, were not going to be easy to crack, and despite the Swiss holding possession for the majority of the match, the first 73 minutes of the game went scoreless. Another draw was lurking on the horizon, and for the Swiss in particular, time was running out.

Johan Manzambi Breaks The Deadlock As Floodgates Open

The Red Crosses eventually broke the deadlock in the 74th minute, which opened the floodgates. Johan Manzambi, the SC Freiburg forward, who arrived on the pitch in the 70th minute, scored.

Ruben Vargas Doubles It

Breel Embolo then set up Ruben Vargas in the 84th minute with a perfect assist. The Sevilla player ensured a clinical finish to put Switzerland two goals ahead. The match was slipping from Bosnia, but the sheer quality of the Swiss and their ability to break through a tough defence was too much to handle for Bosnia.

Manzambi Adds Another As Granit Xhaka Secures Victory

Manzambi added another in the 90th minute while captain Granit Xhaka scored from the penalty spot in the dying minutes of the game.

Bosnia Get A Consolation Goal Through Mahmic

Bosnia got one back through Mahmic, but played a good half an hour with 10 men after Muharemovich was sent off in the 80th minute.

Murat Yakin All Smiles

The Swiss secured a vital three points with a 4-1 victory and almost ensured their passage to the Round of 32. Manager Murat Yakin was all smiles. His team had finally arrived at the World Cup, and no wonder they had treated the spectators to some exquisite Swiss Delight.

Switzerland Play Canada Next

Switzerland play Canada next on the 25th of June at 12.30 am IST. A draw will ensure a round of 32 for both teams.
