France vs Senegal: A massive Group I clash
The rumblings in Group I begin this evening, with a massive France vs Senegal clash at the iconic MetLife Stadium in New Jersey at 12.30 am IST.
A Riveting Clash of Two Football Cultures
France, one of the Front-runners to the crown and Senegal, the African Giants and known as the Lions of Teranga, will be going against each other in what is expected to be a riveting clash of two exciting football cultures.
Les Blues Have An Outstanding Unit…
Les Blues have an outstanding team, featuring some of the most talented players on the planet at the moment. The quality in every department is extraordinary, and in the last two World Cups, the French have been an indomitable force. Winning the Cup in 2018 and a close runner-up in 2022, France have been sensational.
…And One of the Best Players on Earth
Led by Kylian Mbappe, the team has an absolutely unparalleled attack, at least on paper. Supporting Mbappe are two of the finest players in Ousmane Dembele and Michael Olise. Then there is the young Desire Doue for further comfort. The midfield will be manned by Aurelian Tchouameni, Zaire-Emery and the vastly experienced N’Golo Kante. Upamecano and Saliba at the back are a handful.
Senegal Are Not Behind Either…
Senegal, however, have a ripper of a side too, led by their ever-consistent and reliable Sadio Mane, who has had great success this year winning the title for Al-Nassr and the AFCON too, which was later denied due to disciplinary issues.
.. And With Mane Have Some Great Players Of Their Own
Supporting Mane will be Nicolas Jackson, Ismaila Sarr and Iliman Ndiaye. The midfield looks strong too, with Pape Gueye, the young Sapoko Ndiaye from Bayern Munich and PM Sarr. The defence will be shouldered by the big Kalidou Koulibaly, Senegal’s strong centre-back. Pape Thiaw, the manager of the Teranga Lions, has put up a strong team which has the ability to create an upset.
The Lions Need To Be Tactically Smart
Senegal will need to play an extremely tactical game to wear out the French strikers, frustrate them, draw out the midfield and then attack on the counter. This will be their best chance to make inroads into the French.
The French Need To Be Patient
The French will have to be patient. The Senegalese are not easy to crack or score against. It will be a cautious affair, with both teams taking their time and closely watching each other’s moves.
A Loss Would Be Tough to Bear
A loss here will make it very difficult in the Group, with Norway, a very strong opponent, coming next.
France Have The Edge
France have a much more accomplished team for sure and will be the favourites to win. But the Lions of Teranga are more than capable of turning the tables. It will be interesting to see how Mbappe plays in the game. Didier Deschamps, the master tactician, will be watching.
