A Remarkable Day 4
The FIFA World Cup entered Day 4 with some gritty football, seamless flamboyance, and a buckled resolve.
Germans Hand Curacao A Tough Lesson
The Germans thrashed the rookies of Curacao 7-1 in Houston as the day began.
Van Dijk Scores As The Dutch Face The Samurai in Dallas…
The Dutch then faced the Japanese in an exciting Group F Clash in Dallas. The match just became alive in the second half when Virgil van Dijk struck a superb header which hit the inside of the post and entered the goal in the 51st minute. This simply ignited the match.
… But Nakamura Responds
Six minutes later, Nakamura struck a low right footer which just sped across the turf, beating the Dutch goalkeeper to his right. The Samurai were not going away. They had equalised.
Summerville Almost Kills The Game, But Japanese Grit Squares The Game
Summerville then scored in the 64th minute. His brilliant left foot beat the Japs all ends up. The Dutch got the lead, but the Samurai Blues had no dearth of belief or grit as they continued to press for an equaliser, and it surely came with an excellent header from Kamada in the 89th minute. The Japanese had snatched a point. The Netherlands were disappointed.
The Exceptional Swedes in Arlington
The Swedes were exceptional against Tunisia in Group F. The North Africans had no clue what was in store for them as Graham Potter’s side played incredible football at the Dallas Stadium in Arlington.
Led By A Sensational Ayari, the Swedes Dismantle Tunisia
Yasin Ayari for the Swedes was sensational with his striking. The 22-year-old Brighton player was as good as it gets. His two goals were pure class. Gyokeres, who has been brilliant for Arsenal this season, Alexander Isak and Svanberg all showed great composure and skill to have their names on the score sheet. Tunisians got one back, but they had been decimated already. It will be tough for Tunisia from now on. While the Swedes are on the verge of an amazing tournament.
Unlucky Ecuador…
Ecuador were a bit unlucky as they met the Elephants from Ivory Coast at Philadelphia in a Group E encounter.
… And Some Rattling Strikes
In the World Cup so far, I haven’t witnessed the ball struck so fiercely by any team other than Ecuador. The South Americans rattled the crossbar twice. Played superbly but couldn’t score.
But The Elephants Survive To Hit Hard In The End Through Amad Diallo
The Elephants, however, continued to show patience and struck a telling blow through Amad Diallo, the talented Manchester United forward. The goal struck deep into the hearts of the Ecuadorians. The Elephants had stolen a march over the South Americans.
A Day of Determined Spirits
It was an incredible Day at the World Cup, with brilliant performances, determined spirits and a few heartbreaks too.
