The story begins in a small village called Luthermuir in Aberdeenshire, in Scotland, where John and Harry were born to Jack and Heather.
John & Harry Take To Football
The two young kids took to football seamlessly and came through the Scottish set-up. John, the elder one by a couple of years, eventually joined Rangers ( one of the finest Scottish Clubs) and remained in Scotland, firmly tied to his roots.
Harry Decides To Play For Australia
Harry, the younger Souttar, left for England close by and became a regular with Leicester City. All of 6’6″, the tall, strongly built Harry quickly established himself in the Centre-back role and with his mother Heather born in Western Australia, Harry decided to play under the Australian Flag.
John Is Called Up For Scottish Duties
John, too, was called up for Scottish duties, and he, too, cemented his place in the crucial Centre-back position in the Scottish National Team, akin to his brother, who did so with the Australian National Squad.
The World Cup Brings The Brothers Under The Spotlight
Both Scotland and Australia qualified for the World Cup, which has brought the two brothers into the limelight. The story, however, doesn’t end here. What binds the two brothers together and feeds their zeal to perform at the biggest stage in football is an unfortunate tragedy that beset the Souttar family in the loss of their eldest son.
An Unfortunate Tragedy
Aaron Souttar, the eldest of the three brothers, passed away tragically from Motor Neurone Disease, just months before Harry played his first World Cup with Australia in 2022.
Shared Grief & Motivation
Both John and Harry have spoken openly about their shared grief and how much the memory of Aaron has motivated them to give their best on the football pitch under different flags. No wonder Aaron continues to live in the hearts of his brothers as they chase success for their respective nations.
