Swiss Power Against Qatari Resolve

The powerful Swiss will square off against Qatar in a Group B clash at the San Francisco Bay Area Stadium in Santa Clara on Sunday, June 14, at 12:30 a.m. IST.

Switzerland is the Top Team in Group B

Switzerland have come of age and have reached the Round of 16 in four of their last 5 appearances in World Cups. Without a doubt, the Swiss are the top side in Group B and will look to seize 3 points in Santa Clara against Qatar, in the first-ever World Cup meeting between the two nations.

Qatar Have A Lot To Prove

Qatar who were hosts in the 2022 World Cup, could not make an impression then, but qualified for the World Cup on merit this year in a gruelling 16-match test to get to North America. They have developed into a good team under the watchful eye of Julen Lopetagui, and will surely challenge the Swiss.

Granit Xhaka, the Swiss Legend, is the key to Switzerland

In Granit Xhaka, the Swiss have a legend who can control the midfield with aplomb like a perfect lynchpin. Xhaka’s performance for Sunderland this year has been exceptional, akin to his work for Bayer Leverkusen. Xhaka will be crucial for the Swiss, and along with Manuel Akanji, will guide the young Swiss team. I am also looking forward to watch Zeki Amdouni, the gifted attacking midfielder and Dan Ndoye, the quick winger, in the upcoming contest.

The Friendlies

Switzerland drew with Australia in an International friendly on the 7th of June, which would not have made coach Murat Yakin very happy. It was a very cagey performance from the Swiss. They need to do better against Qatar.

Qatar had a tough experience

Qatar will depend on Akram Afif, their best player. Gifted with speed and scoring ability, Afif will be a threat to the Swiss, but the other members, too, will be required to play out of their skins to keep the Swiss at bay. Qatar lost to Ireland and drew with El Salvador in international friendlies last week. The important point is that Qatar were unable to score, which will remain a concern for the team.

Switzerland Are Clear Favourites

Switzerland are the favourites to come through against Qatar unscathed and should ease into the Round of 32 from this group.
