A Top of The Table Clash in Lens
In a top-of-the-table clash, RC Lens, the challengers, welcomed the leaders PSG to the Stade Bollaert-Delelis last night, in a virtual climax of the gruelling Ligue 1 2025/26 season.
RC Lens Have Had A Great Season With Pierre Sage
RC Lens, with Pierre Sage at the helm, displayed great courage, played magnificent football and almost dethroned Paris Saint-Germain from their fiesty perch at the top of French football. There was a time when Lens were leading PSG, but a bit of a slip in a game or two led to their losing the grip on the Ligue 1 Title.
With PSG, It Was Not Going to be Easy for Lens
There was still a lot to play for. A win for Lens would again make it interesting. The Blood and Gold Club were going to give it everything, but PSG, who have been improving by the day, were not going to make it any easier for Lens, and so it happened.
Sensational Kvaratskhelia Scores For PSG
Kvaratskhelia, the sensational Georgian, scored the first goal for PSG from a fine Ousmane Dembele pass. His composure and ability to finish are truly extraordinary. His return from injury has been a boon to PSG, with his pacy exploits from the left flank making it very difficult for the opposition to keep him at bay.
Safonov Had A Great Game for PSG
Pierre Sage did not go full strength, probably saving the energies of his best players for the French Cup Final next week, but still had chances in the game. Saint-Maximin and Florian Thauvin were introduced after the hour, and though they got Lens going, Safonov, PSG’s goalkeeper, denied their moves. Lens should have scored more, but some poor luck, poor finishing and Safonov got in the way.
Ibrahim Mbaye Scores the Winner for PSG To Win Ligue 1
Ibrahim Mbaye, the 18-year-old, then scored in stoppage time to deliver the final blow and seal the match for PSG, thus winning the Ligue 1 for the 5th year in succession.
A Record-Shattering & Dominant PSG
PSG have been the most dominant club in France and once again proved how good they are and how much better they have become under Luis Enrique. It was the Parisians’ 18th domestic league title overall and the third in Luis Enrique’s term. A second consecutive UEFA Champions League title may well be on the cards as the Champions League final against Arsenal approaches in a couple of weeks.
Brave Lens Meet Nice In French Cup Final
RC Lens were brave, had a great campaign and are still in with a chance of acquiring some silverware when they play Nice at Saint-Denis in the French Cup Final next Friday night.
It was an intriguing Ligue 1 season, but PSG galloped when it really mattered.
