A Listless Al-Nassr
A surprisingly listless Al-Nassr went down to a dominant Al-Qadsiyah at the Prince Saud Bin Jalawi Stadium in Dammam last night. The loss broke the 20-match winning streak of the Knights of Najd, but more importantly, slowed down their rapid progress to the Saudi Pro League Title.
Al-Qadsiyah Haunt Al-Nassr
If Al-Hilal win their next match against Al-Khaleej tomorrow, then the 5-point lead will be reduced to just 2, putting the Title race wide open. Al-Nassr had it in their hands, but Al-Qadsiyah have been their nemesis, and their poor record against the club from Dammam came back to haunt the race leaders.
Poor Defence And Mané’s Absence Hurt Al-Nassr
Al-Nassr’s defence was caught napping several times in the match, and the star-studded line-up just did not get going at all. The absence of Sadio Mane due to flu hampered the cohesion of the team, particularly from the left flank.
Abu Al Shamat Al-Qadsiyah’s Star
Abu Al Shamat from Al-Qadsiyah, with his lightning pace, had Al-Nassr’s defence chasing him, and he won the duel more often than not. No wonder he opened the scoring for the hosts, and though Joao Felix equalised before halftime, Al-Qadsiyah remained the better team.
Juwayr & Quinones Put Game Beyond Al-Nassr
Musab Al Juwayr, the young Saudi international, and Julian Quinones ( who has been in a rich scoring form), put Al-Qadsiyah in an invincible position. Al-Nassr could not dominate possession and failed to create any impact in the second half.
Al-Qadsiyah Comfortable Winners
The belligerent hosts were comfortable winners and Al-Nassr despondent losers. Al-Nassr have a problem of losing in bunches similar to winning in hordes, and therefore, they need to set this loss aside and focus on the remaining three games, which they have to win to claim the title.
The Virtual Final Coming Up
Al-Nassr’s match against Al-Hilal on the 12th of May is a virtual final for the Saudi League Title.
