Chelsea Sack Rosenior Before FA Cup Semifinal

Chelsea sack Liam Rosenoir before FA Cup Semis

Chelsea Manager Liam Rosenior was sacked after the Blues were blanked 3-0 by Brighton on Wednesday, severely damaging their prospects of qualifying for the Champions League next season.

It was the Blues’ 5th straight loss in the EPL, and that too without scoring a single goal. Rosenior had taken over from Maresca ( another failed experiment) in January this year, and though he started well, the decline in the past few matches ( where Chelsea lost a potential 15 points) was enough for the owners to part ways with Rosenior.

The timing, just before the FA Cup semis against Leeds this evening, came as a surprise to me. A team already under immense pressure will have to adjust quickly to a new interim Manager in Callum McFarlane, just before a huge game in front of a sellout crowd at Wembley.

Leeds United are in a good streak of form, having been undefeated in their last 6 games with victories over Manchester United, Wolves and West Ham. Their last match was an entertaining 2-2 draw against a strong Bournemouth team. The Peacocks will be tough to negotiate for Chelsea, who are searching for their next goal.

Leeds United, for me, start as favourites over Chelsea this evening. But if the Blues want to survive and win, they will have to score, which is itself a huge challenge.

I am sorry for the Blues.
