Tottenham’s Sinking Ship

A beleaguered Tottenham Hotspur went down 0-3 at home to a struggling but recovering Nottingham Forest. The Spurs, having a harrowing time, were well and truly knocked over by the Tricky Trees last evening as Match Day 31 of the English Premier League unfolded at the weekend.

It is hard to imagine how rapidly Tottenham is sinking. There have been injuries galore which unfortunately have completely exposed the Spurs’ bench strength, but still the performances have been much below par. The return of Richarlison and Solanke along with the likes of Cristian Romero and van de Ven have made no difference to the fortunes of Tottenham.

Since the departure of Harry Kane and Son Heung-min, Tottenham have become half the side, they used to be. The defence is pathetic to say the least. There are acres of space available for the opposition to come and score ( just look at the goals 2 and 3 by Nottingham last night). The back line is loose and has gaping holes. There is no one with intent to tighten the defence.

The scorers too look clueless at times. Richarlison and Solanke could not conjure any reasonable move against Nottingham. Only Tel got one to hit the cross bar. There was nothing beyond that. Though the Spurs did get 13 corners, all of them were stalled by the Tricky Trees. In the entire match Tottenham had only 2 shots on goal playing in their backyard, which speaks volumes about their present form and confidence.

The loss has pushed Tottenham down to the 17th position with 30 points, just one point ahead of West Ham in the relegation zone.

Tottenham play Sunderland next, which again will not be an easy match, followed by Brighton who just had the better of Liverpool. A slip here and if West Ham are able to win a couple, Tottenham in all probability will enter the relegation zone.

These are very difficult circumstances for the Spurs and they need to dig deep to not only salvage the season but their pride too. Thomas Frank, in my opinion could have made a difference. Tottenham should have persisted with him. Igor Tudor has hardly been effective. It is also upto the players to push themselves that much hard in order to get back onto the winning bandwagon.
