Al-Nassr continued to impress, sans Cristiano Ronaldo, as the Knights of Najd thrashed Al-Khaleej 5-0 away in Saihat to stay atop the Roshn Saudi League. With 8 games remaining, the Saudi League took a break as EID beckoned the Kingdom.
Al-Nassr stood 3 points clear of Al-Hilal ( who are still to lose a game) and 5 points ahead of Al-Ahli who dramatically lost to Al-Qadsiyah 2-3, after conceding two stoppage time goals. The loss may cost Al-Ahli the title. Al-Hilal had to win and thus scraped past by a solitary goal against Al-Fateh.
Joao Felix once again was in top form and without a doubt is carrying the mantle of the talisman in the absence of Cristiano Ronaldo, which speaks volumes of Felix’s character and also how well the other players have responded around him. Jorge Jesus also needs to be complimented for lifting the team when they had suddenly slipped.
Felix scored a fine brace and broke his 14 match goal drought, though he assisted many. His pace, sublime ball control and ability to finish has made him standout in his team. No wonder he is such a crucial link in the midfield, a playmaker and also a striker.
It was also heartening for Jorge Jesus to witness goals from Alhamddan, Yahya and Gabriel in the contest. With all contributing, Al-Nassr are playing as a well oiled unit.
Al-Nassr play Al-Najma, the bottom placed side on the 3rd of April, which will give them another opportunity to consolidate their pole position, though the title favourites have to play Al-Ahli, Al-Qadsiyah and Al-Hilal in the final stretch of the competition. That will be a test for Al-Nassr and will be required to be passed to win the title.
