The Norwegian Club Bodo/Glimt is slowly but surely becoming the toast of the UEFA Champions League this season. They had started the campaign poorly, but things turned after the first 6 games, and now the dreams are swiftly transcending into reality.
Another emphatic win at the Aspmyra Stadion in the 1st leg of the Round of 16, has given Bodø/Glimt a great chance of gate crashing into the quarter finals of the UEFA Champions League. A 3-0 drubbing of Sporting from Portugal re-affirmed the reality that Bodø/Glimt are a serious threat to any Club, big or small.
The Norwegians have the quality in defence and are more than a handful going forward. SB Fet, Blomberg and Kasper Høgh all scored in open play with meticulously built moves against Sporting. The match though was not as fluent as I had expected, a bit scrappy to be precise, but Bodø/Glimt eventually got the result they wanted.
With a three goal disadvantage, the reverse fixture in Lisbon next week, will require something exceptional from Sporting, while a confident Bodø/Glimt will definitely try to shut the doors on the Portuguese and move to the quarters, where the Norwegians already have a foothold.
The journey of Bodø/Glimt thus far in the competition is a rapidly unfolding fairytale. A journey so inspiring. A journey so historical.
