Barely 72 hours after relegation bound Wolves had wounded Liverpool late in a crucial EPL tie, the defending EPL Champions took swift revenge in a 5th Round FA Cup clash at the Molineux Stadium. A 3-1 win for the Refs secured a quarter final berth for them, while for the Wolves it was yet another umpteenth disappointment this season.
Andy Robertson was the Hero for Liverpool playing brilliantly in an extremely emphatic performance from Liverpool. Though the first half went goalless, the second half was absolutely action packed.
Mo Salah created the opportunity for Robertson with a fine dribble to wriggle out the ball from the Wolves in a terrific play. Robertson got the ball and drilled an absolute screamer with his left foot to beat the Wolves goalkeeper in a sensational finish from the Englishman.
Two minutes, Robertson set up Salah with a splendid move down the left with an even better cross for Salah to tap home in front of goal. Initially the goal was denied but then a VAR check, ruled in Salah’s favour. It was the Egyptian’s 254th goal for Liverpool in 9 seasons . A staggering achievement indeed.
Liverpool were in command already with a two goal buffer, before Curtis Jones added a third with another exceptional finish. Wolves got a consolation goal right in the end, but Liverpool emerged runaway winners 3-1 to qualify for the FA Cup quarters.
It was a magnificent performance from Liverpool and the team looked good right from the outset. Young Ngumoha started the match and gave the Wolves a few scary moments with his electric pace and tremendous ball control. Certainly he is one for the future for Liverpool.
Arne Slot looked like a happy man after being utterly disappointed with the loss against Wolves a couple of nights ago. The EPL title is out of reach but still for Liverpool there is a lot to fight for.
