Al-Nassr Reclaim Top Spot As Ronaldo Powers A Brace

Al-Nassr take top spot as Ronaldo scores a brace

Al-Nassr hosted Al-Hazem from Ar Rass at the Al Awwal Park in Riyadh last night, as the Holy month of Ramadan bestowed itself. Al-Hilal, the table topper,s were playing arch rivals Al-Ittihad in the Saudi Al-Clasico, and therefore Al-Nassr had to put up a big win to ensure that any slip from Al-Hilal would be complimentary to the men in yellow.

I have to admit, it was one of the best performances I have seen from Al-Nassr of late. A lot of credit has to be given to Jorge Jesus, particularly for the seamless movement of players on the field, akin to a well-oiled unit. I was greatly impressed by Kingsley Coman, Angelo, Joao Felix, Sadio Mané, Bento and of course the legend Cristiano Ronaldo.

The pack looked extremely organised and created opportunities for one another in a terrific team display. Ronaldo looked stellar on the field. Still hungry for goals and with an energy so palpable, he hardly appears a man above 40.

All four goals scored by Al-Nassr were gems. Ronaldo scored a brace from almost similar angles with magnificent ball control and a finish as sublime as ever. Even from a very tight angle, he was able to put the ball through, exhibiting great technical skill and balance.

Joao Felix set up Kingsley Coman with a spectacular pass that cut through the Al-Hazem defence, with Coman ensuring a cool finish. Angelo, the Brazilian, then displayed some skill of his own with a fine solo run through a host of defenders and then kept his composure to put the ball past the Al-Hazem goalkeeper.

The 4-0 win was needed for Al-Nassr, and with Al-Hilal drawing with Al-Ittihad, the Knights of Najd have moved to the top of the Roshn Saudi League, in a big boost to Jorge Jesus and his bunch of terrific players.

The question is, can Al-Nassr hold on for the next 12 games and deny Al-Hilal and Al-Ahli Saudi, to win the all important Title. They need to combine the way they have done in this game. No defence in the league will be able to stop them if Ronaldo, Mané, Coman, Angelo and Felix set upon themselves to keep winning.

Time will tell for sure.

Al-Nassr are travelling to Unaizah to play Al- Najma on Wednesday night. I am expecting an encore from the Knights.
