Football, the incredible sport, has another incredible story to tell, and this time it is from the beautiful locales of Switzerland.
The Swiss Super League, the premier football competition in Switzerland is witnessing an unfamiliar leader in FC Thun. The club, which remained in the Swiss Challenge League ( the second tier of Swiss football) for 5 years and got promoted to the top tier only this season, has come out of the blocks running.
FC Thun, from the Bernese Oberland Town of Thun, has simply dominated the ongoing Swiss Super League and no wonder the club was declared as the Winter Champions. With 24 games played out so far, FC Thun had a remarkable run, winning 18 games, drawing 1 and losing 5. With 55 points to its credit, FC Thun are comfortably placed at the top of the league, leading St Gallen by 12 points.
FC Thun have also scored the maximum goals ( 56 ) and by far have the best goal difference of 28, which clearly indicates how well they have attacked and defended at the same time.
Five years of hard work and determination have resulted in a formidable FC Thun, which has never witnessed such success in several decades. Self belief is paying off for sure.
Mauro Lustrenelli, former Swiss International and Manager of FC Thun, has had a major role to play in the success of the club. Associated with Thun since 2012, Lustrenelli took over Managerial responsibilities of the Senior Team from 2022 and has eventually developed a champion team.
The success of FC Thun is testimony to the fact that big money and big names do not always guarantee success and that Football eventually needs skill, determination, self-belief and a zeal to succeed. FC Thun has been injected with the above in abundance. They don’t have big stars, but there is a tremendous contribution from all players.
With 9 games to go in the competition, Thun are well on course for the title and will play hosts to FC Sion at the Stockhorn Arena in Thun tonight.
FC Thun’s success is indeed a big collective effort and a highly motivating one at that.
