The South Australian cut and drove with aplomb. His wrist work off his hips was a treat to watch. The timing and precision were exquisite, and coupled with his steely determination and bravado, Travis Head loomed large over the SCG.
The England bowlers tried everything in the book, but Head battled it out and turned the pressure on them. This was his 3rd century of the series and in doing so joined an elite club of greats, including Mathew Hayden, Alistair Cook, Jack Hobbs, etc, for scoring the most hundreds by an opener in a single Ashes series.
His hundreds at Perth and Adelaide were match-winning knocks, and his maiden ton at the SCG today turned the game in Australia’s favour too. Such has been the impact of Travis Head on the Ashes this season.
Playing with gay abandon with a decent amount of risk has been Head’s game. But his self-confidence and self-belief have been rock- like which has led to the consistency he has been able to produce. No wonder the purists keep scratching their heads seeing the unconventional Head’s startling success.
Travis Head’s performances in all forms of cricket have been generally impactful and have, in most cases, turned the results in his team’s favour. How can we forget his terrific century in the Final of the ICC Men’s World Cup in 2023?
The Legend of Travis Head is here to stay, as it keeps growing and growing.
