Arab Cup : Syria Stun World Cup Bound Tunisia

Syria Stun Tunisia. Omar Kharbin scores

The Arab Cup began in Qatar with the inaugural match played out between Tunisia and Syria at the Ahmed Bin Ali  Stadium in Doha this evening.

Tunisia, under Manager Sami Trabelsi, have had a great year, leading to their qualification to the FIFA World Cup and therefore were favourites to get past Syria.

Syrian Football Team, known as the Qasioun Eagles, however, were upbeat with coach José Lana confident of a good show against the Eagles of Carthage.

The match began with Tunisia in control of the proceedings and dominating the first half, but they were unable to score. There was a surprise in the second half.

5 minutes into the second half, Syrian Alsalkhadi was brought down by Haddadi, resulting in a yellow card for him and a free-kick for Syria. Omar Kharbin produced a strike to remember. The ball went over the wall and then flew into the net. The finish was sublime from Kharbin.

Tunisia went on the offensive, but the Syrians denied them and held on to a famous 1-0 victory.
