The Roshn Saudi League ( RSL) got underway after the International break, as Al-Nassr, the undefeated table toppers, played host to Al-Khaleej from Qatif Governorate. The Al-Awwal Park in Riyadh was packed to the rafters as the home team took the field on Match Day 9 last night.
As expected, Al-Nassr, the favourites, dominated the match, and though Al-Khaleej played their part and did not perform badly, the sheer quality of Al-Nassr was too overwhelming for the visitors. The Al-Alamis emerged 4-1 winners and continued their winning reign ( 9 out of 9 ) in the RSL.
Five goals were scored in the match. Joao Felix, having a remarkable season with Al-Nassr, scored the first goal with a cool finish in brilliant open play. Wesley, the Brazilian for Al-Nassr then scored from a ripper of a shot with class written all over it. Al-Hawsawi from Al-Khaleej produced an even better strike. A thunderous left footer which travelled in no time into the Al-Nassr net. It was a top-class effort from Al-Hawsawi.
Sadio Mane, the Senegalese star, made it three for Al-Nassr with another brilliant finish. His right footer had precision and placement written all over it.
The magical moment of the match, however, arrived when Cristiano Ronaldo defied his 40 years of age and struck an incredibly sensational bicycle kick to score Al-Nassr’s 4th goal. It was a stunner which sent the fans berserk at the Al-Awwal Park.
It was an unusual night for Ronaldo. He had missed several chances to score and at best it could be said, that he was wasteful. But the legend made it up with a goal which people will remember for a long, long time. The staggering strike was unbelievably perfect. The technique was brilliant and the execution flawless.
No wonder Ronaldo stunned all and sundry with an outrageous stunner. What a player.
Al-Nassr, with 9 wins from 9 games, continued its perch at the top of the RSL table with 27 points, 4 points clear of second-placed Al-Hilal.
