The young brigade of the Moroccan Atlas Lions served a shock to the world by beating the favourites Argentina to claim their first ever FIFA U-20 World Cup in Chile. Morocco also became the first African nation to win the coveted title since Ghana in 2009.
Morocco got the better of South Korea, The USA and mighty France in the knockouts, before turning the tables on Argentina to secure a famous victory.
Yassir Zabiri etched his name in history by scoring two magnificent goals in the first half, which proved to be enough for the Atlas Lions to win the Final. The young Moroccan, who plays for FC Famalicao in the Portuguese League, was in brilliant form.
Zabiri first executed a perfect free-kick which curled into the Argentine goal in the blink of an eye. It was a real screamer of a shot with an astounding finish from the young Zabiri.
The second goal too came off a fine move from the young Lions as a below-par Argentina were caught off guard. Zabiri once again buried the ball into the net with his now-famous left foot.
Argentina kept possession, but the Moroccans thwarted every move and denied the 6- time U20 Champions.
Morocco eventually prevailed 2-0 and, in a way signalled a slight shift in the balance of power in Football. There were tears of joy as the Moroccans lifted the Cup and celebrated with aplomb.
