Two perfect headers and one classy finish saw Erling Haaland produce a brilliant hat-trick at the Ullevaal Stadion in Oslo last night.
Norway needed a win against Israel to confirm their place at the FIFA World Cup in North America next year. The Nordics did it with elan as they trounced Israel 5-0 to record their 6th straight win in Group I of World Cup Qualification for Europe.
Amidst a tense backdrop of pro-Palestinian supporters en masse at the stadium, Erling Haaland missed two penalties, but recovered to puncture the Israeli defence with a clinical performance. The rampaging, burly Norwegian showcased his extraordinary scoring form and sensational finishing skills to put Israel on the mat and secure Norway’s well-deserved place at next year’s FIFA World Cup.
Israel further added to their woes by scoring two own goals and fell to an embarrassing 0-5 drubbing. With chants of Free Palestine ringing in the air, a massively partisan crowd got behind their team to ensure victory.
A 28-year wait was finally over when the referee blew the long whistle amidst raucous applause. Stale Solbakken, Norway’s Manager, was overjoyed with his team’s performance as he jumped and jumped with sheer glee.
Erling Haaland, Norway’s talisman and man of the hour, literally propelled Norway to the World Cup with his stupendous performance in every game of the qualifiers.
What a staggering achievement from Norway!!
